Advanced media players can organize your music automatically, by genre, album, year and so on, but the audio files will remain in a disorganized heap on your hard drive. If you wish to burn an audio CD or perform other operations, you have to browse through your files and identify the songs, their albums and so on. With NeatMP3, you can bring order to your chaotic music collection. This appropriately named application allows you to tag your audio files, rename and organize them in different folders, according to their metadata.

The application is cross-platform and free. It runs on Windows XP, Vista, Win 7 and Win 8, as well as Mac OS X Snow Leopard, Lion and Mountain Lion. The setup package is about 9 and a half MB and it takes only a few moments to complete the installation process.

NeatMP3 allows you to work on a clean and simple interface, with only a few options, which are all you need to organize your files. You can import individual files, entire folders, with or without their sub-folders. Loaded files appear in a list and you can right click individual items and select an option to edit their tags on a separate window.

The sorting and renaming methods can be selected in different drop menus, on the right side of the interface, next to the file list. Depending on your selection, the application will sort your songs in folders and sub-folders, according to their artists, albums, genres and years. The files can be renamed, using the same information. It is also possible to fix incomplete or invalid tags, manually or automatically.

When your settings are complete, you may hit the Start button, located in the lower right corner of the interface. You can select an output folder, beneath the file list, if you don't want to affect the original files or tick an option to delete them.

Pros

NeatMP3's functionality is straightforward and easy to understand. It supports various audio formats and it can organize and rename your files according to their metadata. The application can fix incomplete or invalid tags, but you can also edit the information manually.

Cons

There are no serious disadvantages to mention. With NeatMP3, scattered audio files can be turned into a well organized library almost instantly.
